Before you start trying: a 90-day groundwork
You don't need to overhaul your life. You do need three months of small, boring, consistent moves. Here's the calm version.

Conception isn''t a switch — it''s a slow setting of the table. Eggs mature over roughly 90 days; sperm regenerate over roughly 72. What you do in the next three months meaningfully shapes the next pregnancy.
The good news: most of it is unglamorous and very doable.
Start with a real conversation
Before the supplements and the tracking apps, sit down — both partners — and say the quiet things out loud.
- How will we split nights, leave, and chores?
- Who do we want around us in the first month — and who do we not?
- What''s our money plan if one of us steps back from work?
- What do we not want to repeat from our own childhoods?
The pregnancy will arrive whether you''ve had this talk or not. Having it now is the single highest-leverage thing you can do.
The 90-day body checklist
What to actually change in your day
- Cut alcohol to near-zero (both partners)
- Stop smoking and vaping (both partners — sperm quality responds fast)
- Move your body 30 min, 5 days a week — walks count
- Sleep before midnight, four nights a week minimum
- Swap one meal a day for something with iron, protein, and a green
What to stop doing
- Stop the crash diets. Severe restriction lowers fertility for both bodies.
- Stop tracking your cycle anxiously on five apps. Pick one.
- Stop reading "trying to conceive" forums after 10 pm. We promise.
When to see a doctor sooner
- Under 35 and trying for 12 months with no luck
- 35 or older and trying for 6 months
- Irregular cycles, very painful periods, or a known PCOS / endometriosis diagnosis — start the conversation now, not later
There is no medal for waiting it out alone.
